Marta Fabris | Street Photographer
The 10th installment of SPG's interview series is here and we are back with a woman street photographer to our delight! Let us introduce the street photographer Marta Fabris, an extremely talented Italian who paints vividly colourful as well as monochrome moments from the streets and fills them with romance. Marta is from Padova - Italy, with a distinct style of her own. Here's a quick opportunity to gaze into how Marta thinks on the street, and off it...
What is more important to you, the people or the surroundings?
Marta : The protagonists of my shots are people and their moments of life, sometimes intense, sometimes simple. The city is told with the movement of its inhabitants, in shots with a photographic language that varies in techniques depending on the intensity and destination of the message.

Marta, how would you define your style of street photography?
Marta : A touch of romance, capturing urban life.
Why and when did street photography become your THE thing? What exactly inspired you?
Marta : I have always looked people and things ‘shooting’ places, details, environments with my eyes…. I did street photography recently and It has become an essential way of communications. With photography my creative side has emerged, free: I interpret light, I express emotions, I tell stories... I like to play with lights and shadows, which recall life situations in its beauty and drama

When you look deep within, did street photography change you?
Marta : Yes! I look at everything with a photographic eye, I look into deeper details, the colours, shadows and the lights. Photography has been a wonderful opportunity for personal growth.
Marta, what would be your top list of tricks to succeed as a street photographer? Share some tips for people who are starting out on street photography..
Marta : The real tip is to shoot, shoot, shoot anytime, anywhere! In my opinion a beginner photographer has to study a lot of pictures trying to do something similar, with a personal touch. Moreover, another useful strategy is to click a photo with a precise objective and theme in mind.

Is there anything beyond that camera for a street photographer ?
With photography I express my love for life. When I have trouble falling asleep, I imagine moving through new images, encountering figures that become more familiar each time. Those scenes are part of a single great narrative, they are part of our existence and I then try to transform them into moments with my beloved camera. - Marta Fabris
Is street photography your primary source of bread & butter?
Marta : No, it is not.
Which camera(s) do you use? And what about your lenses and other accessories?
Marta : I use Fujfilm xt5, 18-55 mm
Which other street photographers’ work inspires you the most?
Marta : Every photographer has a unique style that can inspire me! I look at every picture with interest and explore the technique and the composition in use.
Any shot you missed and you must have taken?
Marta : There are lot of shots I missed! I have learned that camera must always be ready to shot!

Do you believe that street photographers are travel photographers too?
Marta : No, absolutely not
Any location that you dream to cover next? Or any place that you would want to revisit?
Marta : Lisbon!

What is your perspective on the relationship between Street Photography and Street documentary?
Marta : The difference is subtle—street documentary focuses on people in their everyday actions.

Marta : I started by reading books on photography.
Any project that you remember more than everything else?
Marta : A photo of my daughter, in which I studied the pose, the lights, the composition of the portrait.
That's an adorable project.. Marta, what makes you say “Wow!” when you see some other street photographers’ work? (and the reverse)
