There are many of us street photographers who freeze to arctic ice when they are asked to shortlist 10 best photos out of their lives' work. In SPG World’s 18th interview feature, we meet such an English photographer (with a Chile connection) who did almost the same. Well, he threw a google drive link at us with 300 photos to pick from!! Most of us go through the same dilemma (or say: photographers' block). We found treasure inside! Unlike many other photographers we have featured, he did not invest too much into words. Mark, why and when did street photography become your THE thing? What exactly inspired you?
Mark J Cutting: About 6 years ago when not able to get out and do wildlife photography I thought I would try my hand and so a great love affair began!
How would you define your style of street photography?
Mark J Cutting: Angles, lines, curves and contrast…. seeking beauty in everyday life.
Mark, what is more important to you - the people or the surroundings?
Mark J Cutting: Both are inseparable for me.
When you look deep within, did street photography change you?
Mark J Cutting: Yes - most of all it gave me freedom, confidence and the joy of meeting new people.
Mark, is there any top list of tricks to succeed as a street photographer? Share some tips for people who are starting out on this genre . . .
Mark J Cutting: Enjoy the journey, embrace your mistakes and let the results speak for themselves.

Mark J Cutting: The eye and empathy.
Is street photography your primary source of bread & butter?
Mark J Cutting: No.
Any shot you missed, and you must have taken?
Mark J Cutting: Plenty but I don’t worry and have learnt from the misses too.
Which camera(s) do you use? And what about your lenses and other accessories?
Mark J Cutting: Leica M11 mostly with 50mm f2 but also a Fuji X100V.
Which other street photographers’ work inspires you the most?
Mark J Cutting: Saúl Leiter the master!
What is your word of caution to amateur street photographers?
Mark J Cutting: Respect subjects and their right to privacy.
What NOT TO DO in street photography?
Mark J Cutting: Never make others uncomfortable.
